How to speed up your metabolism?
Have you been feeling lethargic lately? Can’t handle cravings for foods you know aren’t good for you (like carbs and sugar)? Have a stubborn weight that won’t budge – no matter what you do?
Your metabolism is to blame.
“Your metabolism—more specifically, your metabolic rate—is how quickly your body burns calories,” says Julie Loehr, a certified nutritionist and personal trainer.
When the metabolism is slower than normal, it creates a series of negative side effects, including fatigue, mood swings, food cravings, and difficulty losing weight.
And the best part is that it doesn’t take long to make moves in the right direction. Follow this remedy for three days to boost your metabolic rate (and start reaping the benefits of an increased metabolic rate).
Day one: Saturday
when do you wake up
Get 8 hours of sleep
When you don’t get enough sleep, it can disrupt the balance of hormones in your body – which in turn slows your metabolism and increases your risk of weight gain.
“The body considers sleep deprivation an additional stress factor — so cortisol goes up and testosterone goes down,” says Shaun M. Talbot, an exercise physiologist and nutritional biochemist.
One study from the University of Chicago found that getting just 5.5 hours of sleep each night over two weeks reduced fat loss by 55 percent.
According to Talbot, “People who sleep 6 hours versus 8 hours per night carry 5 to 15 pounds of extra belly fat.”
Get the most of the metabolism-boosting benefits from your sleep. Aim for at least 8 hours each night – and make sure those 8 hours are filled with quality sleep.
